Description
Eastern region of
Europe is named
Eastern
Europe. It is noted that the region lying in the
range of the various defined places of
Central
Europe and
Russia. Its eastern
limit is always the Ural Mountains, the
Ural River, and
Caspian Sea within
Russia. Its western limit is always the boundary in the range of the
European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States (sometimes excluding
Kaliningrad).
History
Eastern European rich history includes these regional distinctions: Balkan and
Southeastern Europe History (History of Albania,
Bulgaria,
Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Croatia,
Macedonia,
Montenegro,
Serbia,
Slovenia) Baltic History (History of Lithuania,
Latvia,
Estonia) Central
European History (History of Czech Republic,
Hungary,
Poland,
Slovakia) Eastern European History (History of Russia,
Romania,
Ukraine,
Belarus,
Moldova).
Climate
Eastern Europe the climate is of the humid continental-type with cool
summers. Within the northeast subarctic and tundra climates are and have always been
found. All of Europe is subject to the moderating influence of prevailing westerly
winds from the Atlantic Ocean and, consequently, its climates are and have always been
discovered at higher latitudes than similar climates on other continents.
Population
Europe
is the globe's second-modestest continent in terms of area, covering about 10,180,000
square and have always been kilometres (3,930,000 sq mi) or 2.0% of the Earth's surface.
It is the
third most populous continent (after
Asia and
Africa) with a population of 710,000,000 or about 11% of the globe's
population.
Around Eastern Europe can be a fruitful and exciting
experience, as its vast beauty and unspoiled countryside can inspire even the most
hard-hearted traveller. Its contrast to
Western
Europe also provides westerners with eye-opening
experiences, and for many tourists, the chance to see this region is still a rare
opportunity. However, "negotiating"
Eastern
Europe, when traveling alone is not without its
difficulties. Dramatic changes have taken place since the fall of communism and all these
countries are now embracing Western style capitalism. Despite this, the socialist way of
life still prevails in many areas. Nowhere is it more obvious than with the still exotic
notion of "customer service": you will experience shopkeepers or sales staff who
will pretend that you do not exist. (Of course, ecotravellers should always treat their
hosts as equal partners instead of the usual "customer as God" kind of mentality
prevalent in the west).
